FRAMING IN AN EMBROIDERY HOOP

framing in an embroidery hoop

My mother had a saree that she had embroidered . Though she has embroidered many other sarees , this one was dear to her. The saree started to wear out . She wanted to keep the embroidery . She asked me to frame it. Could not find the right kind of frame that suited the color. Finally ended up with the embroidery hoop and turned out neat and nice.
Things Required:

  1. Embroidery hoop
  2. Embroidery to be framed
  3. Scissors
  4. Needle and thread
Method
  • The size of the embroidery hoop should be big enough to fit the piece of embroidery.

  • Place the inner ring of the hoop on a table. Lay your piece of embroidery on top of the inner ring. Center the design and then place the outer ring on top, making sure the screw is centered at the top of your design. Adjust the position of the screw as needed.
  • Once the design is positioned , tighten the screw slightly and pull the fabric so that the design is firm on the hoop. Some materials are firm and the design won't be distorted even if pulled out tightly. Do accordingly. Now tighten the screw of the embroidery hoop , one last time.

  • Trim the excess fabric in a circle around the hoop, leaving enough  margin. It gives sufficient grip to pull the cloth taut , if required.

  • Sew a running stitch around the circle. When you have stitched around the circle , pull the end threads together so that the fabric will gather in and tie a tight knot. Trim any loose ends .

  • Hang it and show off your skills.
