മാങ്ങാ വാട്ടിയേത് - mango cooked in coconut milk
Also called manga curry , my mother calls it manga vattiyethu. This is the most frequently made curry for rice in my house.

- 1-1/2 cup mango slices
- 1/4 of a medium sized onion , chopped
- 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tsp coriander powder
- 4 green chilies
- 3 tsp Kashmiri chili powder
- 1/2 tsp fenugreek powder
- curry leaves
- 1/4 tsp each of perumjeerakam
- 3 cups coconut milk squeezed from 3 cups grated coconut, 3 times - first milk separated
- 1 Tbsp. coconut oil
- a pinch of sugar(optional)
- salt , to taste
METHOD
- Put in all the ingredients in a pan . Mix thoroughly with hand.
- Add the second milk and cook for 7 minutes or until the mango pieces are cooked through. Turn off the stove and add the first milk. Check for salt and keep covered for atleast 30 minutes before serving.
NOTES
- If the right amount of salt is added , it brings out the subtle sweetness in the curry. This way the sugar can be completely avoided. Get the salt right , get the taste right!!!!
