BEEF CURRY- pressure cooker recipe

beef curry

Porrotta and beef curry might be the most favorite combination in kerala , especially in thattu kadas.

INGREDIENTS
  1. 1 kg beef , chopped(I have used stew cut beef)
  2.  onions, thinly sliced(200 gms.)
  3. 2 medium-sized tomatoes(150 gms)(next time skip the tomatoes)
  4. 2 Tbsp ginger-garlic paste
  5. 1 turmeric powder
  6. 2 Tbsp. coriander powder
  7. 2 tsp. chili powder
  8. 1 tsp.  pepper powder
  9. 2 tsp cumin powder
  10. 1-1/2 tsp perumjeerakam powder
  11. 1/4 tsp each of clove powder and cinnamon powder
  12. 1/2 tsp cardamom powder
  13. 1/2 tsp nutmeg powder
  14. 1/2 tsp fenugreek powder
  15. 1/2 tsp anise seed powder
  16. a few curry leaves
  17. lemon juice, as required(2 Tbsp.)
  18. 2 Tbsp oil
  19. salt to taste

METHOD
  • I used a Prestige pan Junior to make the curry.

  • Heat the pan. When it is warm, add 2 Tbsp oil. When the oil is hot, add the chopped onions. Sauté for a while. Then add the ginger and garlic. Saute until the raw smell goes away.

    • Sauté the onions till slightly brown, then add the spice powders and curry leaves. Stir for a minute ,and then add the chopped tomatoes.

            • Put in the beef. Stir well, add salt, and pressure cook on high for 1 whistle and low for 5 minutes. Depending on the cooking time of the beef, cook longer.

            • Open after the pressure releases naturally. Add lemon juice as per taste.

            NOTES
            • If you use cooked beef to make the curry, use chopped garlic and ginger instead of paste.
            • No need to reduce the onions if the cooked beef was cooked with onions. It gives good gravy consistency.
