DIAMOND CUTS-BAKED!!!!

baked diamond cuts

This is my husband's favorite, childhood snack. He has been pleading to make this for a long time. Rolling out the dough, cutting out the diamond shape, frying it and rolling it in sugar syrup was not my thing, so I never made it. Until I got this leftover dough from making apple pie. The leftover apple pie dough is rolled out and cut and baked at 425-degree F for 10-12 minutes.

INGREDIENTS

  1. left-over apple-pie crust dough
  2. powdered sugar as required(depends on how much dough you have, start with 1 Tbsp and increase accordingly)

METHOD
  • Roll out the pie crust dough into a thickness of 1/16 of an inch.
  • Place it on a baking tray. Prick holes(don't forget this step) in it so that it dose'nt puff up while baking.Cut it diagonally  criss cross.
  • Bake at 350 degree F  for 10-12 minutes until its golden brown.(I make this soon after baking apple pie,so the oven is already hot and at the right temperature.)

  • Split it into diamond shapes.
  • Put the powdered sugar into a bowl.Add a few drops of water.Put the hot diamond cuts into the same bowl.Give the bowl a good shape.

DIAMOND CUTS FROM THE WHOLE APPLE PIE DOUGH WITH SUGAR SYRUP
  1. Apple Pie dough
  2. 1/4 cup sugar
  3. 2 Tbsp. water
  4. 1/8 tsp salt
  • Make the dough as you would for apple pie.

  • Pre-heat the oven to 350 degree F, for 15 minutes.Roll out the dough . The thickness should be double that of a medium thick chapathi. There is not need to roll out the dough the and cut into a perfect rectangle as shown in the second picture. Round shape will work just fine.
  • Place the rolled out dough in a baking tray. Prick it with a fork and using a knife cut it zig zig.

  • Bake in a pre-heated 350 degree F oven for 12 to 15 minutes or until brown.
  • Meanwhile , in a saucepan add sugar, water , salt and boil till the sugar is completely dissolved.

  • Take out baked dough. The cuts will easily separate. Transfer to a bowl and immediately pour the syrup and give it a good stir.
