BUTTERFLIED GARLIC SHRIMP


I have taken my prawns tawa fry recipe up a notch. 

 INGREDIENTS  

  1. 550 gms. shell on head-on Frozen shrimp(10-13 shrimps )
  2. 1 pod garlic(40 gms)
  3. 1 small piece ginger grated
  4. chili powder as per taste
  5. 2 Tbsp. lemon juice
  6. 2 Tbsp. coriander powder
  7. 1/4 tsp. turmeric powder
  8. 1/2 tsp fenugreek powder
  9. 1 tsp salt
  10. water as required
  11. handful of coriander leaves, chopped
  12. 4 Tbsp. oil


METHOD

  • Butterfly the shrimp. Wash and clean. Drain the water well. I referred to this video to butterfly the prawns. 
  • While the shrimp is draining, make the masala paste. Peel the garlic cloves from the pod. Grate half of the garlic cloves and finely chop the remaining half. 
  • Make a paste with the ingredients from 2-10.


  • Rub the masala into the butterflied area of the prawns. Marinate for at least 30 minutes.

  • Heat a wide, non-stick pan on medium heat. Add oil. When the oil is warm(not hot), add the chopped garlic and coriander leaves. Saute for a few seconds, but do not let it brown. 
  • Then add the shrimp, marinated side down, and press it. Fry on medium to low heat for about 7 minutes, covered with a lid. The shrimp should have turned orange by now. Open the lid and stir the shrimp, gently coating it with the masala. Be careful not to burn the masala, so adjust the heat accordingly.
