FRENCH TOAST
French Toast(also called Bombay Toast ) is a very common snack in most households, including mine.I used to follow a basic recipe , eggs , milk , bread and essence. Enter Rohan(my son ) into the kitchen and he took the french toast recipe up a notch. He used cinnamon , nutmeg along with the basic ingredients and now whenever he makes french toast , our entire house fills with a homey delicious aroma of cinnamon. Indian desserts never use cinnamon as a flavor , what cardamom is to desserts in India , cinnamon is to desserts in the US.
- 3/4 cup whole milk
- 1 large egg
- 2 Tbsp sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/4 tsp each of nutmeg and cinnamon
- pinch of salt
- butter for smearing the pan
- bread as needed to sop up the batter
METHOD
- In a bowl , beat the egg ,salt ,vanilla essence , nutmeg , cinnamon and sugar. Into that add the milk , stirring gradually.
- Heat a non-sticky pan on medium -high heat . When the pan is warm , smear some butter on the pan .Teenager use an insane amount of butter😀😀😀😀. If you are above 40(like me) , use the butter sparing .
- Meanwhile using a fork dip the bread in the custard, until it is nice and wet. Place the bread in the hot, butter smeared pan . Cover and let the bread toast , after about a minute open and turn the bread over and toast on the other side.
- Serve warm with a drizzle of maple syrup and 2 sausages on the side.That's how my son serves it .😎
